NEW MEDIA : FIRST SEMESTER

This is my first project entitled Toys Not Guns. While creating this piece, I thought about the infiltration of violence into kids' recreation, i.e. violence scenes in video games. This led to the idea of creating a crest of evil toys and guns, against a backdrop of static.

I don't have a title for this project, however, the idea behind it was time and space travel. Elements of this photomontage were taken at different periods of time in my life and, to me, their juxtaposition is a time collapse of memories.

While working on this assignment, I thought about the question of home. I felt that this question could relate to a number of social issues dealing with alienation.
WINTER TERM
This past winter term I created a textile inspired by African print and the diagonals in avant-garde typography. I also how diagonals intersect within braids. What resulted was an intricated design inspired by hair. I then simplified it to make the pattern more easily reproducible. To me, the final pattern looks like abstracted pink barettes in black strands of hair.
The initial design:

Simplified to the final design below.
